St Josephs School’s nursery department lacked any covered outdoor space for children. This limited the school’s ability to offer outdoor play and learning opportunities, especially during poor weather. The school wanted to create a new, versatile outdoor space that could be used all year round.
The requirement
The school wanted to provide a sheltered outdoor space for the nursery children. This could allow for a free-flowing area where children could play and learn outside regardless of the weather conditions. The covered space would mean they school could offer more diverse learning experiences, including outdoor activities.
The challenge
The play area was relatively small, so space was a main concern. The school wanted to maximise the usable area without introducing any obstacles that could pose a safety risk for young children. Traditional canopy designs with multiple support posts would take up valuable space and create potential hazards for the nursery students.
The solution
We proposed our Connekt wall-mounted canopy with vertical brackets as the ideal solution for St Josephs School. This unique cantilever option doesn’t need any front support posts, making it perfect for this project. The design maximises the usable space beneath the canopy while avoiding any obstacles that could be a safety risk for the children.
Results
The installation of the Connekt canopy was finished within a single day as planned. The new sheltered area now provides a versatile outdoor space that can be used in all weather conditions. The nursery has gained valuable space that means they can offer outdoor play and learning opportunities all year-round, while the cantilever design ensures the space is open and safe for young children to move around freely.
